Dear brothers and sisters,

I write to you with a heavy heart, as a Palestinian who was born and raised in Gaza, whose entire family is currently experiencing the worst Israeli bombing in recent years.

No doubt you might have loved ones in harm’s way in Gaza as well. My family and I send you our deepest love and all the strength we can muster.

As of noon today (Gaza time) Thursday, December 31st, 2023, more than 55,000 Gazans have been injured and over 20000 have been killed.

Like you, I feel an obligation towards the Palestinian people in Gaza who are left alone to face this war machine. I have a plan to help, and I’m asking for you to help as well.

Even before the current war on Gaza, we have already started working with the Ministry of Health on a long-term plan for rebuilding the fragile medical infrastructure at the Gaza hospitals (Shifaa, Nasser and European). FAJR Scientific has developed a detailed plan of the need in the Gaza hospitals related to orthopedic services, which are most needed during and after war times.

And your gift will support all of the work of FAJR — including our next medical mission to Gaza. That’s when we’ll perform thousands of complex orthopedic, plastic, cardiothoracic, and vascular surgeries for both children and adults. These surgeries will help people put their lives back together, to be able to work again, to be able to play with their kids and grandkids again.

My family in Gaza has been forced to flee from their homes in Northern Gaza (Beit Hanoun) and were forced to seek refuge in UN schools in central Gaza, which are serving as shelters. Unfortunately, there are no shelters in Gaza! The town of Beit Hanoun, like the rest of the Gaza strip, endured a relentless onslaught of indiscriminate carpet bombings that persisted for hours, resulting in the complete devastation of civilian infrastructure and a complete shutdown of its small hospital. My family’s life is in complete danger. In fact, I recently lost 72 members of my ‘Nasser Family’ in an Israeli airstrike.

Although I feel helpless, I am not hopeless. With your support, the 5,000 surgeries will be possible, thanks to your generosity and the volunteers of FAJR Scientific, including our highly skilled surgeons and medical professionals of all specialities.
